USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen has revealed his plans for he future after securing a loan move to Middlesbrough at the beginning of the season.
In a new interview with The Inquirer, the 27-year-old confirmed he will not look to return to Premier League club Manchester City when his loan deal expires at the end of the season, confirming that chapter of his career has closed.
According to The Inquirer, Manchester City have already been made aware of Steffen’s decision not to return.
“I don’t think I’ll go back,” he said. “No, I want to be playing. Although I had a great time at City and I love those guys, and obviously [it’s] an amazing club, I don’t really have any plans to go back.
“I think this year has brought me some peace and understanding of who I am and what kind of goalkeeper I am,” he added.
“Confidence is good, still striving for bigger and better heights and bigger goals and dreams … obviously, the journey is never over of perfecting your craft.”
Steffen has made 35 appearances for his current club, conceding 41 goals and keeping nine clean sheets across all competitions. At Manchester City, he only made 21 appearances total.
He is currently with the United States national team as they prepare to face Grenada and El Salvador in the CONCACAF Nations League.
