Aston Villa have today announced the signing of Youri Tielemans on a four-year deal on a free transfer from recently relegated Leicester City.

The Belgium international’s contract with the Foxes expires on June 30th and despite reported competition for his signature, he will join Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

He becomes Villa’s first summer signing in what is expected to be a very busy summer at Villa Park.

A statement on the official Aston Villa website read: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans.

“The Belgian international will officially become a Villan on July 1 after his contract with Leicester City has expired.

“Tielemans has played at the highest level throughout his career, with Anderlecht and Monaco among his former clubs, and he has most recently played in the Premier League at Leicester City, where his goal helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.

“A regular for his country on the international stage, the 26-year-old has represented Belgium at World Cup tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and at UEFA Euro 2020.”

Tielemans joined Leicester initially on loan from Monaco in January 2019 before his move was made permanent the following summer in a deal said to be worth an estimated £38 million.

He went on to make 195 appearances for the Foxes, contributing to their FA Cup win over Chelsea in 2021.
