Birmingham City’s interim head coach Darren Carter says that he has told his side to go into their final two Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches with no fear.

The Blues will be relegated if they do not beat Manchester City at The Academy Stadium tomorrow night. Birmingham City are five points adrift of safety with just two games left to play.

The odds are stacked heavily against the Midlands side but Carter said that his team must show no fear going into games which will shape the club’s immediate future.

“As good as Manchester City are, as good as they have been and the threats they pose, I’ve told the players that you can’t be fearful,” Carter said when speaking in his pre-match press conference. “We are respectful of the opposition but certainly not fearful.

“These players are in the WSL and playing at the top level for a reason, they have earnt the right to be here, they’re very good players and on our day, we have proved that we can go up against the best.

“There’s a belief without the shadow of a doubt. You draw inspiration from games like the Arsenal game and going toe-to-toe with Chelsea on Sunday, we’ve just got to put that all together in a performance and go and get three points.”

Birmingham City were minutes away from collecting a point against Manchester City back in December. Ellen White’s 89th-minute goal fired The Cityzens to a 3-2 victory at the St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium. While the Blues held their own in that game, Carter is expecting a tougher test this time around.

He said “It was a different Manchester City team before Christmas, they had a lot of injuries and I know that Gareth (Taylor) has had his fair share of bad luck on that front. They’ve got a stronger side now and it’s no coincidence that there has been an upturn in their season.

“It is more of a challenge this time around because of the personnel that they’ve got available and they are playing at home but we will go into it with nothing to lose, we will give everything. We know that we have got to go and win the game so we won’t leave anything to chance, we will go all out and try and get the win.”

Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
