Barcelona striker Vitor Roque is set to be afforded a rare opportunity to feature from the off in the club’s next La Liga outing.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this week provided an insight into the latest plans of Barcelona head coach Xavi.

The Blaugrana, of course, are currently preparing themselves for a return to action on the continent, ahead of the first leg of the club’s Champions League quarter-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain next week.

From here, though, attentions will swiftly turn back towards matters on the domestic front, in a La Liga meeting with relegation-battling Cádiz.

And Xavi, for his part, has some major decisions to make for the clash.

As much comes will all of Robert Lewandowski, João Cancelo and Iñigo Martínez ruled out through suspension.

It is the impending absence of frontman Lewandowski, though, which has culminated in widespread chatter across the Barcelona fanbase.

This comes amid mounting calls for the aforementioned Vitor Roque to be afforded what would mark just a 2nd La Liga start, since his January arrival from Brazil.

And, as per the aforementioned MD, precisely that appears to be on the cards.

Though it is not yet entirely clear in which position Xavi intends to make use of the Brazilian, it is assured that the Nuevo Mirandilla matchup ‘will mark his second start in La Liga’.

Roque is the current favourite to replace Lewandowski as the Catalans’ attacking spearhead, but in the case of Ferran Torres being favoured for this role, the 19-year-old will be deployed out wide.

Xavi has been testing Roque in a whole host of positions in training over recent weeks, impressed by the youngster’s ability to adapt.

His long overdue reward, in turn, will arrive a week from Saturday…
