Barcelona will head into the upcoming summer transfer window desperately needing reinforcements in the midfield unit.

The club are still yet to find a replacement for Sergio Busquets, whereas Frenkie de Jong is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona might want to beef up their options in the middle of the park. However, given the club’s economic distress, coach Xavi Hernandez may have no option but to once again look at La Masia.

Xavi to assess three youth midfielders this summer

According to Diario SPORT, Xavi has been overly impressed by the performances of Fermin Lopez. Keeping his success in mind, the Barcelona coach is expected to closely assess three youth midfielders in the coming summer.

The three youth players in question are Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Pau Prim. All of these three youngster will be assessed during Barcelona’s pre-season campaign.

Casado, for one, has already featured in the Barcelona team sheet numerous times. A defensive midfielder by trade, the youngster possesses excellent technical and positioning awareness – making him an interesting option for Xavi.

Prim and Bernal, too, have made waves in La Masia and Barcelona were particularly keen on renewing the contract of the latter.

What is Xavi’s plan?

As per the report, Xavi’s ultimate plan is to have at least two of these three youngsters remaining part of the Barcelona setup all throughout the setup.

It appears Xavi is hoping that either of these talents can make an impression during the pre-season campaign, much like what Fermin did last season.

Barcelona’s main focus, though, is on the transfer market and the club will try their best to bring in a fresh face. But in Prim, Bernal and Casado, the club may have a wild card waiting to be found.
