Barcelona end Xavi’s reign with a win

Scorers: En-Nesyri 31′; Lewandowski 15′, Fermín 59′

Xavi’s final game as Barcelona head coach ended with a 2-1 win over Sevilla.

The former midfielder’s departure was confirmed just 48 hours before his side’s trip to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes with an acrobatic finish to meet João Cancelo’s cross to the far post.

The hosts drew level later in the first half when Youssef En-Nesyri beat Marc-André ter Stegen at his near post with a tidy finish.

But Fermín López sealed victory for the Blaugrana shortly after the interval with a low drive from just outside the penalty area.

Barça finished as distant runners-up to Real Madrid while Sevilla’s 14th-place finish marked a successful fight against relegation.

Valencia held in Celta thriller

Scorers: Aspas (PEN) 49′, Douvikas 61′; Domínguez OG 5′, Marí (PEN) 60′

Celta Vigo and Valencia produced a four-goal thriller which also saw a LaLiga record equalled.

The visitors took an early lead when Carlos Domínguez turned the ball into his own net after just five minutes at the Estadio de Balaídos.

But Os Celestes drew level shortly after the interval through an Iago Aspas penalty before Alberto Marí restored his side’s lead in identical fashion.

Marí’s strike also recorded the league’s 1,000th goal of the season – a feat previously achieved in Spain’s top flight during the 2017/18 campaign.

Los Ches’ lead lasted barely 60 seconds as Tasos Douvikas delivered an immediate response for Celta with a low effort from an Aspas through ball.

Rubén Baraja’s side finish ninth while their hosts cast off relegation fears to seal a credible 13th spot, eight points clear of the bottom three.
