Barcelona value themselves for having a very good group of young players, and they tied down one of the most impressive to a new contract earlier this week, that being Pau Cubarsi. The 17-year-old has extended his stay until 2027, with the expectation of a further renewal coming his way when he turns 18.

Xavi Hernandez was asked about Cubarsi’s renewal during his press conference on Sunday (via MD), and he expressed his delight at having so many impressive youngsters in his first team squad.

“Pau is a homegrown player, so it’s a great renewal for us. With Hector, with Marc Guiu too, they are homegrown players who are performing. It’s great news for the club.”

Another of Barcelona’s young guns is Pedri – it’s easy to forget that he’s only 21. Xavi was asked about his availability for Euro 2024, and he all-but confirmed that Spain can select him for the tournament.

“It’s not up to me who goes to the Euros. I see him doing well, he is training at 100%. We’ve tried to manage his situation, and he’s in a good place right now.”

Having Pedri at the Euros would be a big boost for Spain, and it’s now almost certain that he will go, given that Barcelona have given their blessing. All parties involved will be praying that he can stay fit over the coming weeks.
