Xavi causes a divide in the Barcelona board | OneFootball

Something of a division has opened in the boardroom at La Liga giants Barcelona, over the future of head coach Xavi.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Wednesday provided the latest on the situation on the bench in Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of Xavi’s potential continuity has of course returned to the fore in a major way over the course of the last week.

This comes amid mounting claims that the Spaniard is leaning increasingly towards going back on his decision to step down upon the season’s close.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta, and vice president Rafa Yuste, have long made clear publicly their hope that Xavi will ultimately decide to see out the remaining year of his contract.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, however, then as much is not the common consensus behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

In fact, far from it…

As per the aforementioned Sport:

‘Today, there is a large division in the club between Xavi’s supporters and those who are betting on a change on the Barça bench for next season to give a change of direction to the sporting project.’

A meeting, in turn, will soon be held between Xavi, Laporta, Yuste and Deco, during which a definitive decision regarding plans for next season will be made.
