Barcelona’s announcement of Xavi Hernandez’s continuity for an additional season a few weeks ago seemingly put an end to the rumors of an exit this summer.

But recent statements by the coach appear to have jeopardized his place on the Barcelona bench.

With the coach emphasizing financial constraints and the need for reinforcements, Joan Laporta has reportedly made the decision to part ways with Xavi once and for all this summer.

Xavi has received no notice

However, according to Víctor Navarro, Xavi Hernandez and his coaching staff have no evidence or communication at this time that they are not going to continue.

Essentially, at this point in time, there is no indication or evidence suggesting they will not be continuing with their work.

This development contradicts the recent news that Xavi’s departure is all but certain, since the coach himself has not been briefed.

However, it could be that the Barcelona board is looking to approach Xavi in a more formal manner to convey their decision to sever ties this summer.

After all, the coach just recently returned to Barcelona following the club’s win on the road against Almeria.

In any case, more clarity is expected to be achieved soon.

Who could replace Xavi?

In the likely event that Xavi hits the exit door, a number of options have been discussed to replace Xavi.

Rafa Marquez, Hansi Flick, and Sergio Conceicao are seen as realistic alternatives, while Thomas Tuchel’s decision to leave Bayern also renders him an appealing option.

Flick and Tuchel were heavily linked before Xavi announced his continuity, especially since they will be free agents this summer.

Meanwhile, Rafa Marquez is someone who has Laporta’s trust and has earned faith with his solid work with the reserve team.

Time will tell how the story develops, with Xavi’s future far from secure for the time being.
