Former Real Madrid and Liverpool man Xabi Alonso has taken his first steps into management by taking charge of Real Madrid’s under-13 side.
The veteran midfielder retired from the game last year and has returned to the Spanish capital to complete his Uefa coaching badges.
The 36-year-old is now down to the final part of his ‘A’ course and must complete a 12-month position with a youth team.
Alonso has been placed in charge of Los Blancos’ Infantil A side and will oversee their development at the Valdebebas training facility.
He’s not the only ex-Madrid man trying to make it as a manager – Raul and Santiago Solari are both employed by the reigning European champions to look after their Cadete B and Castilla teams, respectively.
If there’s one player who’s going to succeed as a coach in the future though, it has to be Alonso.
Just look at the list of tacticians he’s worked under: Rafa Benítez, José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Vicente del Bosque and many more.
