Wycombe Wanderers trialist Michal Rosiak might be the perfect alternative for Barnsley midfielder Luca Connell.
Wycombe Wanderers may have the perfect Luca Connell alternative under their noses this summer, as Barnsley continue to play hardball with any potential transfer deal seemingly hitting a brick wall.
Wanderers have made it clear that the Irish midfielder is a top transfer target this summer, and have reportedly submitted as many as four bids for the former Celtic star, but have yet to receive a breakthrough in the deal.
Barnsley are understandably not keen on losing their captain to a potential promotion rival, and are subsequently playing hardball with any offers that the Chairboys have thrown their way.
However, Wycombe may well have the perfect alternative to Connell right under their noses, and even better, he would save them a hefty fee as he's currently unattached after turning down a new deal at Arsenal.
His name is Michal Rosiak, and he's recently been on trial with the Buckinghamshire-based outfit, impressing in his few appearances, and even scoring a goal in a 3-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.
Arsenal's famed academy has seen many young players emerge from its ranks over the years and go on to be hugely successful, whether it be with the Gunners, or elsewhere. Rosiak is hoping to follow this path, but away from The Emirates.
The Polish midfielder has now left the North London side after nine years in their youth ranks, rejecting a new contract to seemingly pursue a new opportunity elsewhere, and finally gain some first-team experience.
Known for his exceptional set-piece skills, versatility which allows him to operate at right-back, and leadership qualities in Arsenal's Premier League 2 side, Rosiak is a wise head on young shoulders, similarly to someone like Freddie Potts, who excelled at Adams Park.
Following confirmation that he wouldn't be signing a new deal with the Gunners, the Pole joined Wycombe on trial for pre-season. He made an instant impression on his debut against Cheltenham, scoring just 10 minutes after entering the field for Mike Dodds' side.
Other substitute appearances followed for Rosiak, with him gaining valuable minutes against Barnet and former North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It's unclear if he featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Notts County B on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old has been the talk of Wycombe's social media since his impact against the Robins, and many would love to see him adorn the light and dark blue quarters in League One next term.
Wycombe's pursuit of Barnsley skipper Connell has seemingly fizzled out in recent weeks, after four bids were reportedly launched by the Chairboys, but no breakthrough has yet to be reached for the transfer.
The Tykes are keen to hold their ground unless Wanderers meet the asking price, which is reported to be between £750k-£1m. Losing their skipper to another team who will also be hoping to challenge for promotion would be a huge risk for the Yorkshire club.
Whilst this is ultimately frustrating for Wycombe, they may have unearthed the perfect alternative for Connell by offering Rosiak a trial during pre-season, which could save them the big fee Barnsley are asking for.
Firstly, the Pole is a very similar type of player to the 24-year-old, being a midfielder that mainly sits deep, likes to get forward with the team, has an excellent passing range, and is very strong from dead ball scenarios.
His versatility could also give him the edge over Connell, as Rosiak is more than capable of playing right-back, giving Dodds extra cover in midfield and defence, which is something that the Irishman can't do.
It seems Wycombe have the perfect cheap alternative to Connell right under their nose. However, the Blues must act fast, as Serie A club Lecce have taken an interest in signing the Wanderers trialist.
