Manchester United v Leicester

Scorers: Thomas 17′, Russo 30′, Zelem 59′, 63′

Manchester United erased their lastest frustrations with a big 4-0 win over Leicester City at home.

It was clear the hosts wanted to bounce back to winning ways after they hit the ground running right from the first whistle at Leigh Sports Village.

And despite Leicester’s best attempts to stop United’s early threats, Ella Toone and Martha Thomas connected for the opener before Alessia Russo doubled the lead.

Coming out after the break Katie Zelem continued her good run of form after she secured a brace to wrap up a 4-0 win.

Both goals were scored directly from the corner, meaning the captain has now scored three Olimpicos in her last two matches. Yes, you read that right.

The result means Manchester United move up to third while Leicester sit 11th.

Aston Villa v Brighton

Scorer: Le Tissier 28′

Brighton bounced back to winning ways after a slim 1-0 over Aston Villa away from home.

It took a while for either side to find their scoring touch at Bescot Stadium as Aston Villa and Brighton each had a few efforts in the opening minutes.

The breakthrough, and eventual winner, would come just before the half-hour mark when Maya Le Tissier redirected Megan Connolly’s corner past Hannah Hampton.

As time went on the match continued to be an open contest with both sides pushing to find the back of the net next.

Yet it was the goalkeepers who stole the show with Megan Walsh producing a double save to prevent Villa from equalising before Hampton made a finger-tip save at the other end.

Things remained a one-goal game heading into the second half but even though both sides ramped up their efforts nobody else could hit the target seeing things end 1-0.

The result means Brighton are sixth and Aston Villa are ninth.
