The second London derby of the day saw West Ham and Arsenal share the points in a goalless draw.

The visitors were in control on the night but struggled to find their scoring touch, with five of their nine first-half shots finding the target – but none the net.

Lina Hurtig and Stina Blackstenius combined for the best attempt yet the effort went well over the bar. Hosts West Ham, meanwhile, had penalty claims dismissed at the other end.

The likes of Viviane Asseyi, Melisa Filis and Dagný Brynjarsdóttir couldn’t create anything worthwhile for the hosts and Arsenal continued to control the pitch in the second half

Yet despite a staggering 20 shots to West Ham’s two, nothing could get beyond goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold as Rafaelle Souza, and Leah Williamson pushed for late winners.

It’s a missed opportunity for the Gunners, who sit third in the table, five off leaders Chelsea. West Ham, meanwhile, are seventh.

Liverpool pick up vital Reading win

Scorers: Kearns 62′, Holland 65′

Liverpool registered their third win of the WSL season after digging deep for a 2-0 victory over Reading.

It was a nervy first half as neither side truly threatened in front of goal during the opening 45 minutes and things remained goalless.

The best chance fell to Liverpool’s Katie Stengel, but her attempt was cleared off the line.

Coming out after the breaking Reading maintained slightly more possession but the likes of Emma Harries and Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen were not having their best night as the visitors struggled in the final third.

Instead, the Reds made the most of some sloppy defending to grind out the win.

Missy Bo Kearns poked home for 1-0 before Ceri Holland doubled the lead at the back post minutes later.

It is a huge win for Liverpool, and they move up to 8th while Reading’s relegation reality creeps closer as they sit second from the bottom.

Chelsea move two points clear at the top

Scorers: England 16′,Karczewska 89′; Carter 8′, James 27′, Reiten 64′.

Chelsea survived a late fightback from Tottenham to move ahead at the top of the league.

Jess Carter headed home from a well-worked corner, unmarked in the box to turn in Erin Cuthbert’s cross to give Emma Hayes’ side the lead but Beth England equalised facing her former club for the first time.

A stunning individual effort from Lauren James restored Chelsea’s lead as she galloped past three Spurs defenders before seeing her shot from the edge of the box deflect off the post and into the back of the net.

Guro Reiten seemingly killed the game off midway through the second half as she made it three but Nikola Karczewska got on to Angharrad James’ chipped pass to slot home and make it a tricky last few minutes for the visitors.

But Chelsea held on to take advantage of United’s slip-up and open up a gap at the top.

Brosnan heroics deal United title blow

Manchester United’s title chances were dealt a blow as an inspired goalkeeping performance from Courtney Brosnan earned Everton a valuable point in Leigh.

Ella Toone saw her shot hit the post before Brosnan pulled off a great save to deny Katie Zelem’s volley from close range as the hosts knocked on the door early in the second half.

It was an inspirational showing from the returning Brosnan who produced a number of saves to keep Marc Skinner’s team at bay.

Everton almost nicked the victory for themselves when Ona Battle’s mistake left Jess Park with a good opportunity directly at goal but she was unable to get a shot away from a tight angle and the opportunity faded.

United fall into second place, two points behind the league leaders Chelsea.
