Manchester City Women got back on track and cut the gap at the top of the Women’s Super League with a win over Leicester on Saturday despite dealing with an opposition goalkeeper in inspired form.
Scorers: Shaw 61′, Kelly 74′
The King Power Stadium played host to a goalless first half, with Janina Leitzig, a winter arrival from Bayern Munich, the busier of the two goalkeepers.
Gareth Taylor’s side had several attempts, with Chloe Kelly, Lauren Hemp and Bunny Shaw all being denied on multiple occasions by the German loanee.
But she was finally beaten just after the hour mark after starting the second half in impressive fashion again, with Shaw planting a header home which Leitzig could do nothing about.
And the contest was finally put beyond the Foxes, who posed plenty of problems for City, on 74 minutes when Kelly broke into the area and her sweet strike doubled their lead.
With the result, City close the gap on top two Manchester United and Chelsea to two points.
