There were four Women’s Super League fixtures to enjoy throughout the day on Sunday.
Here is what went down.
Scorers: Blackstenius 27′, 41′, Mead 34′
Following Chelsea’s win earlier in the day, Arsenal eased any pressure in the WSL title race after a statement win over Brighton.
The league leaders ran the show at Broadfield Stadium and new signing Stina Blackstenius recorded a first half brace to bring her tally to four league goals this season.
That was in addition to Vivianne Miedema setting up Beth Mead for a third and Caitlin Foord running the show.
The hosts did enough to limit any additional threats from Arsenal and things ended 3-0 to see Arsenal maintain a five-point lead at the top of the table while Brighton sit eighth.
Scorer: Leon 41′
West Ham got back to winning ways following a 1-0 victory away at Birmingham City.
A nervy affair throughout the first half both clubs only had a handful of chances to find the back of the net.
The visitors, however, managed to take their best opportunity when it arrived after Kateřina Svitková’s corner found the foot of Adriana Leon.
The Canadian international, who made her first start since returning from injury, volleyed home at the back post for 1-0.
Things continued to be tense in the second half but neither side could find the back of the net again.
The result means West Ham move up to sixth while Birmingham sit bottom of the table.
Scorer: Weir 64′
Manchester City moved to within two points of Tottenham in fourth with a narrow win at the Hive on Sunday afternoon.
It took an hour for the opener to arrive after chances at both ends and went the way of the visitors as Caroline Weir pounced following a scramble in the area for the opener.
That came shortly after the Scot had been denied by the woodwork from a free-kick and proved to be the only goal of the game.
Scorer: Kerr 90+2′
Sam Kerr scored a last gasp winner as Chelsea kept up the pressure on WSL leaders Arsenal in dramatic fashion.
Hannah Hampton was unsurprisingly the busier of the two goalkeepers throughout, making several important stops to deny Kerr and Guro Reiten with a fantastic performance.
When Hampton was beaten by Kerr with eight minutes remaining, the offside flag came to the rescue as she looked set to leave with her clean sheet until Kerr struck in the 92nd minute for a thrilling winner.
The goal means Emma Hayes’ side sit five points off leaders Arsenal and also have two games in hand.
