Slegers delivers huge win in first as permanent Gunners boss

Scorers: Williamson 6', Russo 63', Mead 67', Caldentey 75' (PEN), 90+5'

After being named as permanent Arsenal boss earlier this week, Renée Slegers led her side to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Her side had the lead early on when an inswinging corner was poked home by Leah Williamson in the box for her first WSL goal for Arsenal since March 2023.

After the hour mark had passed, the Gunners found another gear and Alessia Russo's poacher's instinct kicked in after she fired home the rebound when Shae Yáñez had parried the initial shot from Katie McCabe.

Russo then turned provider as she broke through the Palace backline to set up Beth Mead, who fired her low shot home for her first of the year.

This was turning into a bad day for Palace when Caitlin Foord was upended in the box and the referee awarded the home side a penalty. Up stepped Mariona Caldentey to convert the spot-kick and all but seal the points for Arsenal.

Caldentey had her second after Russo's curling effort crashed against the post in stoppage time, allowing the Spanish international to fire in a shot that snuck between the goalkeeper and the post to complete the rout.

The win puts Arsenal into second in the league, with both Manchester clubs below them still to play.

Chelsea march on with West Ham rout

Scorers: Macario 11', Cuthbert 21', Beever-Jones 44', Baltimore 52', Tysiak 85' (OG)

Chelsea remain at the top of the WSL table with ten wins and a draw from their opening 11 games, after a 5-0 thrashing of West Ham.

Catarina Macario opened the scoring for the Blues in some style when she played a neat one-two with Sjoeke Nüsken, before delivering a sublime looping left-footed shot into the back of the net.

The Blues doubled their lead when Erin Cuthbert broke forward and delivered a low angled shot beyond goalkeeper Kinga Szemik from the edge of the box.

Their third was another stunning strike, Aggie Beever-Jones putting her foot on the ball on the edge of the box and swinging in a curling effort which sailed into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Into the second half and West Ham continued to gamble with playing out from the back, but they came unstuck when Niamh Charles won the ball back high up the pitch, played in Sandy Baltimore who unleashed a curling left-footed shot that found the top right hand corner, putting Chelsea four goals to the good.

As the game headed into the final stages, Cuthbert got round her marker to deliver a flat, dangerous cross across the six-yard box, which was unfortunately turned in by West Ham's Amber Tysiak.

As Chelsea's dominance continues, West Ham remain third from bottom of the WSL table.

Tottenham pull off narrow Leicester win

Scorers: Leitzig 4' (OG)

Tottenham bagged a 1-0 win over Leicester after an early own goal broke the deadlock.

Some quick feet from Maite Oroz made space to slip in Amanda Nildén, and her dangerous cross from the left-hand side was deflected in by Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.

That win puts Spurs up to sixth in the table, while Leicester still only have one win on the board.

The fixtures continue next Saturday, when Aston Villa host Manchester City, and on Sunday, Arsenal travel to Chelsea.
