After just 14 minutes, Ella Toone – on her return from an injury layoff – opened the scoring when she dinked her finish over the City goalkeeper Khiara Keating.

This was Toone's 10th Manchester derby, but her first goal, and you can see how much it meant to her as she grabbed the badge on her shirt in celebration.

No sooner had Toone put Man Utd in front, than Mark Skinner's side had bagged another, when Leah Galton turned and finished from a corner.

Man City can feel aggrieved that the goal should have been flagged for offside, however with no VAR checks in the WSL, the goal stood.

But the lead was no accident as Toone struck again to make it 3-0 before half time.

This now leaves Gareth Taylor's outfit with a mountain to climb, especially bearing in mind that Man Utd have only conceded three WSL goals all season.

A comeback is looking more and more unlikely.
