Wrexham are interested in signing Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff in the summer transfer window.
That's according to a report from The Wrexham Insider, who say that two League One promotion hopefuls are also keen to sign the 27-year-old when the market opens.
Following their promotion from the National League last season, the current campaign has been another memorable for Wrexham.
The club have already secured a second consecutive promotion, meaning they will now be playing League One football in the 2024/25 campaign.
Now it seems as though Wrexham's owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are already plotting some big moves to prepare for that step-up to the third-tier of English football.
According to this latest update, Wrexham are among the clubs who are now keen to sign Langstaff when the market opens at the end of this season.
The striker joined Notts County back in the summer of 2022, and scored 42 goals in 48 appearances last season, to help the Magpies follow Wrexham in winning promotion back to the EFL, in their case via the play-offs.
Langstaff has also followed that up during the current campaign, scoring a further 28 goals in 45 league games for Notts since the start of the season.
That has attracted plenty of attention from elsewhere, with Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United, who are both chasing promotion from League One to the Championship, said to be interested in the striker, along with Wrexham.
As things stand, there are still three years remaining on Langstaff's contract with Notts County, securing his future at Meadow Lane until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Consequently, Notts are in a strong position to respond to any offers that might come in for the striker once the market opens again.
Indeed, it is claimed that it would cost Wrexham significantly more than their current record - £300,000 for Ollie Palmer from AFC Wimbledon in January 2022 - to complete the signing of Langstaff.
It is hard not to feel as though the signing of Langstaff would be a very good one for these clubs to have been linked with him.
In fairness, these three clubs to have been linked with the Notts County man here - Peterborough, Bolton and Wrexham - do have some very reliable sources of goals between them.
That though, is a rare commodity in football, which is also an industry where things can change very quickly.
As a result, bringing in Langstaff could prove to be a smart move, in terms of securing another player who is proven to be capable of making an impact in front of goal.
Indeed, considering how well he has done since stepping up to League Two this season, there may be a confidence that the 27-year-old can handle the pressure of a move up to League One as well.
However, it would be interesting to see how things might change if Bolton or Peterborough win promotion to the Championship this season, something which may given them a big advantage in this transfer race.
Regardless of what happens, whoever Langstaff is playing for once the window closes at the end of this summer - which could potentially still be Notts County - will have pulled off a big coup.
This therefore, will certainly be one to keep an eye on over the course of the coming months.
