Following the win over Barcelona over the weekend, Real Madrid are now the undisputed favourites to seal the league title.

The Spanish giants have a substantial 11-point lead at the top of the table, with just six games left before the season comes to an end.

Three days after the Barcelona win, Toni Kroos revealed what Carlo Ancelotti had told the team before and after the Mallorca game last week.

Ancelotti’s message to Real Madrid players

“Last week, before the Mallorca game, Carlo told us if we win this game, it’s done, we’ve won the title. But after we beat Mallorca, he told us ‘I lied to you! It’s done if we win next week vs Barca’,” Kroos said, as quoted by COPE.

This appears to be a trademark Ancelotti strategy. The Italian, after all, is known for his pragmatism and man-management skills.

Before the Mallorca game last week, Real Madrid had an eight-point advantage at the top. But with Barcelona also winning in the same week, Ancelotti realised El Clasico would be the ultimate difference-maker.

Sure enough, Los Blancos were able to secure a 3-2 victory at the Bernabeu, though the game witnessed a lot of controversies, including VAR’s decision to disallow Lamine Yamal’s effort on goal.

Toni Kroos on El Clasico

Other than revealing Ancelotti’s message to the group, Kroos also offered his thoughts on this most recent edition of El Clasico, branding it as a poor game.

Kroos added that Real Madrid could have won 4-0 if they had played to their full potential.

“Honestly, this El Clasico wasn’t a good game. Both teams didn’t play well. If we actually played well, we could’ve beaten them 4-0,” said the German.

Many experts would concur with Kroos’ remarks on the game, even though it witnessed no less than five goals.

Nevertheless, it is the win that matters, as far as Real Madrid are concerned and the club will look to move on to the next game, which will be played against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta on Friday.
