Ray Parlour has urged Hull City to stick with Liam Rosenior beyond this season and rejected any suggestions that he could be under pressure given the money spent in January.

The Tigers are still fighting for a place in the play-offs but will need to overcome a six-point gap in the final four games of the campaign to overtake Norwich City in sixth.

The Yorkshire outfit are aiming to return to the Premier League but are likely to suffer disappointment this year unless the Canaries drop points in their final few games.

Rosenior has earned the backing of the fans during his time in charge at the MKM Stadium, with owner Acun Ilicali also giving him support in the transfer market.

Failure to gain a top six finish could call into question his future at the club given the investment made to earn promotion to the Premier League, with Premier League loanees like Ryan Giles, Fabio Carvalho and Anass Zaroury among the names brought in to help their push for a play-off place.

Parlour believes that Hull should stick with Rosenior even if they do miss out on a place in the play-offs.

The 51-year-old has claimed that the Tigers’ manager is constantly improving and that he has done well to get the club to punch above its weight this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, via NetBet Casino, Parlour threw his support behind Rosenior.

Asked whether he should be under pressure given the money that Hull spent in January, he said: “Definitely not.

“Look at where Hull City finished last season.

“Rosenior is doing a good job and Hull City are improving all the time.

“I’ve spoken to Liam and you can see his vision for how football should be played and I like his style and the way he talks.

“He is a good young manager and Hull City would be mad to let him go.

“Look at the teams in the top six and they are the three clubs from the Premier League who got relegated, plus Ipswich who were many people’s fancy to have a good season.

“West Brom and Norwich were recently in the Premier League, so no surprise they are challenging.”

Hull City league position

Hull are seventh in the Championship table, six points behind Norwich in sixth.

The Yorkshire side has just four games remaining, one more than their Norfolk rivals, but will need David Wagner’s team to drop points to have a chance of overtaking them.

Time is running out to secure a top six finish, but Hull have come a long way from last year’s 15th place regardless of if they come sixth or seventh.

Their remaining fixtures see Rosenior’s side take on Watford, Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle.

Rosenior has done well at Hull

Rosenior took over a side fighting against relegation back to League One during the early stages of the previous campaign.

First, he guided them safe from that relegation threat, and now he has the team fighting for a place in the Premier League.

The new owner has invested in improving the first team squad, but Rosenior is still getting the most out of the players he has.

Sticking with the 39-year-old is the right move regardless of if the team finishes sixth or seventh, as he has the potential to keep bringing the club forward.
