Man City's recent run of six successive victories came to a dramatic end as leaders Arsenal earned a 1-1 draw with an injury time leveller at the Academy Stadium.

A first half that began in a scrappy fashion ended with City looking more comfortable after Arsenal dominated possession without really creating many chances. City had been in free scoring form recently but WSL leaders Arsenal were proving difficult opponents.

The home side struggled with the high press of the visitors and lived dangerously by trying to play the ball out from defence. City keeper Khiara Keating made an early error following a mix up with her defenders. Vivienne Miedema fired in on goal but City scrambled the ball behind.

Keating made amends moments later by saving a low shot from Miedema. City regrouped and Lauren Hemp sent a diving header straight at keeper Manuela Zinsberger.

But gradually Arsenal gained control with City having to chase the game but the home team regained the initiative and ended the half strongly with Lucy Bronze heading powerfully over.

An early chance for the Gunners as the second period began as Beth Mead ghosted past Bronze but Keating saved well as did the keeper from a Miedema effort moments later.

City responded immediately with a chance for Jess Park but clean through her shot was saved then cleared off the line. Then on 65 minutes slightly against the run of play City took the lead in controversial circumstances.

Lauren Hemp sent in a hard low cross which Bunny Shaw converted from close range although the ball appeared to hit the referee in the build up. Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall was booked for his protests.

The hosts almost doubled their lead but Hemp could only hit the keeper from a narrow angle.

Arsenal strived for an equaliser but City's defence held firm and Gunners stopper Zinsberger twice had to make smart stops to prevent substitute Caroline Weir from making the game safe.

But in added time Arsenal grabbed a dramatic leveller through former Man Utd forward Tobin Heath after City seemed to have cleared the danger leaving the Academy Stadium in stunned silence.
