The Women’s Super League (WSL) season gets underway in September, and here we reveal the date and time of when the fixtures for the 2025-26 campaign will be announced.
Chelsea go into the new campaign as the defending champions after completing an historic domestic treble.
However, they will face fierce competition from rivals including Champions League winners Arsenal.
The Gunners have made history this summer by making Olivia Smith the first £1m player in women’s football.
There is a new addition to the WSL this season in the London City Lionesses, who have been busy during the summer transfer window.
This will be the last season where there will be just 12 teams in the WSL, with an expansion planned for the 2025-26 campaign.
Fixtures for the 2025-26 WSL season, as well as WSL2, will be released on Friday, July 25th.
The fixtures for both of England’s top two flights will be published by the WSL and the competing teams at 10am on that date.
Last season, the fixtures were announced on July 22nd, 2024.
The new season will get underway across the weekend of September 6th and 7th for the top two tiers of English women’s football.
WSL2 will end slightly earlier on the weekend of May 2nd to 3rd. Meanwhile, the WSL season ends two weeks later.
There will again be a winter break for both leagues which runs from December 22nd to January 10th.
In the announcement of dates for the upcoming campaign, it was also revealed that the group stage of the Women’s League Cup will from late September until mid-November.
The knockout phase will begin just before Christmas on December 20th to 21st. The final will be held on either March 14th or 15th.
It was announced earlier this summer that the WSL will expand to 14 teams from the 2026-27 season.
This affects promotion and relegation to and from the WSL in 2025-26.
In past seasons, only one team got promoted and relegated between the top two tiers of English football.
However, to reach 14 teams for 2026-27, the top two sides in WSL2 will be automatically promoted.
A relegation playoff will take place at the end of the season to determine the final team in the 2026-27 WSL season. This will be played between the 12th-placed team in the WSL and the third-placed team in WSL2.
As a result, there is a scenario where no team gets relegated from the WSL this season. From 2026-27 onwards, two teams will be relegated from and promoted to the WSL.
