As his tenure in charge of his current Bundesliga outfit draws to a close, Wolfsburg head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has a personnel conflict to manage. Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, the Austrian confirmed a Wednesday report that two of his players had a physical altercation in training. Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura faces suspension this weekend after a bust-up with teammate Joakim Maehle.
“These things happen from time to time in football,” Hasenhüttl said on Thursday. “One of them was the aggressor and went too far. They are talking to one another again and shook hands in front of the team today.“
It nevertheless appears to be the case that Amoura was definitely the aggressor Hasenhüttl spoke of. The recent signing – who has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen – may not be available for selection on Saturday evening against Borussia Dortmund.
“There are rules that have to be followed,” Hasenhüttl emphasised “If someone oversteps the mark, there have to be consequences. We’ve made that decision together as a club. And you’ll see what that means soon enough.“
Amoura leads the squad in scoring (ten goals and ten assists this year) despite a recent drop off in form. Weak performances in his last five starts might have seen the 24-year-old moved to the bench anyway. Maehle’s Danish compatriot Jonas Wind appears in line to spearhead the attack.
