Will Vaulks speaks out about upcoming Cardiff fixtures | OneFootball

This season has been a struggle for Cardiff so far, with the side currently sat ominously above the drop zone in the Championship.

However, after a huge run of losses in the second tier, they managed to scrape a point against Stoke at the weekend – and Will Vaulks has now told the club’s official website that they should use the next two home games to go into the international break ‘with a bit of pride.’

The Bluebirds haven’t got going so far this year and it’s ultimately led to the sacking of boss Mick McCarthy. The side looked like they might go places with the former Ipswich man in charge, as his introduction as manager into the side last season brought an upturn in fortunes.

However, things have tailed off again for the side this season and with no sign of better results to come, the club decided to part ways with the boss.

So far, the change seems to have worked. After a run of eight losses, the side managed to hold on for a point against Stoke at the weekend – and it’s the first time they have put a point on the board since early September.

Now, Will Vaulks wants his team to build on this and potentially try and grab some more points in front of their fans over the course of the next two games.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I think that we have to see Wednesday and Saturday as an opportunity as opposed to a burden, trying to get results at home.

“We’ll be looking to finish before the international break with a bit of pride that we need. Heading into this break, you can’t ask for much more than two home games before it.

“They’ll both be tough, but winnable, as any game in the Championship is this year. On Wednesday night it would be lovely to get the win and see where that can take us, building momentum.”

Vaulks has featured in 11 games for his side so far this campaign and regularly tried to get his side going from the centre of the field. He and his teammates though have been unable to pick up any wins – but the draw against Stoke is a good start and he and the rest of the side will be determined to pick up even more going forward now.

The Verdict

Cardiff have really not been up to scratch so far this season and the change of manager was bound to come eventually. Something needed to change and the draw and performance at the weekend might be a sign that the choice to relieve McCarthy of his duties is working.

The question is whether they can now build on that or whether they will fall back to their old ways. Their first test comes against QPR on Wednesday – and it is sure to be an intriguing watch.
