Last season saw young Manchester City defender Jadel Katongo shine on loan at Peterborough United. The young central defender played in a variety of roles last season for Darren Ferguson’s side. He will now return to the club for the 24/25 season, as his season-long loan deal to Peterborough United was confirmed yesterday.
Peterborough United’s signing of Jadel Katongo was confirmed on their official website yesterday. Speaking after the loan move was confirmed Jadel Katongo was thrilled to return to Peterborough United this season. In an interview on their official club website he said: “I am buzzing to be back. I really loved my time at the club last season. So when the opportunity came to return, it was something I was really excited about. I have had a good time with Manchester City in the summer in terms of the pre-season tour, but now I am focussed on getting game time and I am looking forward to seeing all of the lads again.”
It was evident in Jadel Katongo’s performances for Darren Ferguson’s side last season that Manchester City have another talented defensive prospect on their hands. He played 43 games last season with Peterborough United. He showed a maturity beyond his years and and played in a variety of roles for Darren Ferguson’s side. Katongo was mostly played at right-back last season which showcased his tremendous technical ability in a new position for the youngster.
If Katongo can impress with Peterborough United again this season he may play his way into Manchester City’s future plans. He showed snippets of his talent during City’s pre-season tour of the United States. If he can have another good loan spell with Darren Ferguson’s side it could lay the foundation for him to kick on with Manchester City in the future.
There is no doubt that Jadel Katongo could thrive again this season for Peterborough United. He has already done so last season for Darren Ferguson’s side. If he does again it will once again highlight that Manchester City have another exciting prospect on their hands.
