A touching moment unfolded at Kléber Andrade stadium in Cariacica, as reported by Globo, when a Corinthians supporter was moved to tears after receiving a special gift from Cassio, the legendary goalkeeper now playing for Cruzeiro. Following Cruzeiro’s win over Banfield in a friendly, Cassio made his way off the pitch and handed over the boots he’d just worn to a Corinthians fan awaiting him near the player’s tunnel.

Visibly emotional and accompanied by his nephew, the fan thanked Cassio not just for the unexpected gesture but also for his pivotal contributions during Corinthians’ historic 2012 campaign. That year, Cassio was instrumental in delivering both the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup titles to the São Paulo giants—achievements etched in the collective memory of the club’s supporters. As security separated the player from the stands with a barrier, the fan clung to the glass, repeatedly shouting, “Cassio, thank you for 2012. This is incredible.”

Reflecting on the exchange, Cassio acknowledged the mutual impact of these brief fan interactions: “I think this affection comes from the respect I have for supporters and everyone I encounter. Sometimes we think these are emotional moments for the fans, but for us, it’s also very touching,” said the 38-year-old.

Cassio left Corinthians earlier in 2024 after more than a decade at the club, amassing 712 appearances—a figure that places him among the most iconic players in Corinthians history. Since joining Cruzeiro, he has featured 59 times and emerged as a key leader in the squad.

For many Corinthians fans, gestures like Cassio’s transcend club allegiances. Although he now wears the Cruzeiro shirt, his legacy at Corinthians remains untouchable. The heartfelt reaction from the supporter in Cariacica captured the enduring reverence many hold for the goalkeeper, particularly those still resonating with the glory of 2012.
