With Milan Skriniar on loan at Fenerbahce and likely on his way out of Paris Saint-Germain, the club may look for a new center-back this summer. Although his move isn’t permanent yet, it seems PSG is preparing to part ways with Skriniar for good, meaning a replacement is probably in the works.

In February, Anfield Watch reported PSG’s serious interest in Ibrahima Konate. This adds an interesting layer to the situation, especially as uncertainty surrounds the defender’s future.

A Paris native, Konate is a key target for PSG, who reportedly want to bring him home. He developed through Paris FC’s youth ranks before moving to RB Leipzig, and now he’s firmly on PSG’s radar.

On the other hand, if Liverpool can’t agree on a new contract with Konate, rumors suggest they may look to sell him to fund improvements to their attack.

Konate’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire in June 2026, but talks over a new deal have yet to make progress, according to The Daily Express. The center-back wants his growing importance in the team to be reflected in his new contract.

Hamzah Khalique-Loonat of The Times reports that Konate’s agent has caught Liverpool’s owners, FSG, off guard by requesting a 150% pay rise, pushing his weekly wages to £200,000. That would make him Liverpool’s third-highest earner, behind only Mohamed Salah (£350,000) and Virgil van Dijk (£220,000).

With a significant gap between what Konate is asking for and what Liverpool is willing to offer, negotiations are now at a standstill as both sides hope to find common ground.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid and PSG have been closely watching Konate, adding extra pressure to the situation.
