When Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis sacked Rudi Garcia he had one name in mind to replace him, Igor Tudor. But despite that, Napoli now have Walter Mazzarri as their new manager ten years after he initially left.According to Gazzetta, Tudor wanted a contract of a year and a half so that he would be guaranteed the job going into the start of next season. De Laurentiis on the other hand did not want to base a contract on anything other than merit and was not willing to offer this contract. After those talks broke down, De Laurentiis thought who better to go for than someone who knows the club and environment. The adaptation period would be minimal and the profile of the manager would be known. This is how he landed on Walter Mazzarri. The 62-year-old Italian previously managed Napoli from 2009 to 2013 and managed a crop of players including Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edison Cavani. Since leaving Naples Mazzarri has managed Inter, Watford, Torino and Cagliari. He is an experienced man who is well versed with Italian football. It is however an uninspiring appointment and hints to Napoli’s ambitions, or lack thereof.
