Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
Manuel Ugarte got the nod to partner Casemiro in Christian Eriksen’s absence. He produced a solid defensive performance over 90 minutes for the Red Devils.
The Uruguayan won six out of eight duels with an aerial success rate of 100 percent. He also completed 90% of his passes against the Foxes.
Ugarte was equally impressive in his last appearance versus Fenerbahce. He had a passing accuracy of 88% and won all of his duels.
The 24-year-old also made a stunning goalline clearance against the Turkish outfit.
Ugarte should continue to accompany Casemiro when United host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
If he can replicate his current run of form, his chances of becoming an undisputed starter when Ruben Amorim takes charge in late November will improve
The midfielder built his reputation in his two seasons under Amorim at Sporting CP before his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
He was in and out of the starting line-up at PSG, which paved the way for his move to United before last summer’s transfer deadline.
Ugarte was unable to cement a regular starting role under former boss Erik ten Hag, but the scenario could change with Amorim arriving.
If Ugarte continues to impress heading into the next international break, he could become undroppable under the tutelage of Amorim in future.
