Inter and Juventus have been bickering all season about who is the ‘real’ favourite for the Scudetto, but the Bianconeri have out-spent their rivals on the transfer market for many years.

They go head-to-head at San Siro on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, having drawn 1-1 in Turin on November 26.

For months we have seen the coaches and directors try to cast the pressure on to their opponents, trying to instead depict themselves as the underdogs.

It is true that Juventus have reined in the extraordinary spending spree of the last decade, which allowed them to win nine consecutive Serie A titles.

However, they have still comfortably spent more on the transfer market every single year than their rivals.

According to figures provided by Transfermarkt, in 2023-24, the Bianconeri shelled out €94m compared to Inter’s €58.2m, the year before it was €117.7m compared to just €70.2m.

The biggest difference was in 2021-22 when Juventus paid €138.4m in purchases, whereas Inter only invested €42.5m.

The last time that Inter made a net loss on their transfers – spending more than they brought in with sales – was the 2020-21 campaign.

They spent €126.5m and raked in just €83m from selling players in what was also the last season they won the Scudetto, under Antonio Conte.

The closest Juve came to that in the last seven years was in 2022-23 with a net loss of €6.1m, spending €117.7m and bringing in €111.6m.
