Manchester United is one of the most popular names in football. And they have built their legacy through some memorable moments. Now in their rich history, they have been associated with a lot of nicknames. Such as, “the heathens”, “United”, or “The Red Devils”. Among all of them, it is quite largely accepted that they are almost synonymous with the name “The Red Devils”. They have a huge fanbase spread almost in every part of the world. A Brief History of the logo of Manchester United:

In the Lancashire part of England, Manchester United was founded back in 1878. However, it was named The Newton Heath football club. It was mainly associated with the working class. And this was the reason, the club was loved even more by the locals. In 1945, Sir Matt Busby joined the club and tried to implement some world-class facilities. He became their best manager till then. And the whole fanbase named the team “The Busby Babes”.

The Munich air disaster:

The darkest chapter of the Manchester United football club came when a snowy runway United’s plane crashed and took a toll of 23 lives including 8 players. It is considered to be the most tragic story of football. However, an injured Matt Busby didn’t even think twice to turn things around for this club. And they won the prestigious European cup in 1968. Even death couldn’t fathom their indomitable winning mentality. This was the trigger point when Manchester United management decided to officially change the club crest.

How Red Devils came into existence:

Busby thought the Busby babes is not the right name anymore after that tragedy. The French press called them “Les Diables Rouges” which meant The red devils. Busby really liked the name. And soon they were popularly associated with the name. In 1970 they officially changed the club crest. It is a devil with a pitchfork, which prompted the name even more.
