The powers that be at Barcelona will be forced to pay out even more than previously reported, if they hope to land Nico Williams from La Liga rivals Athletic Club this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the finer details of the operation.
It has of course long been common knowledge across all of Spain that the release clause included in Nico’s Athletic contract stands at €58 million.
With the brass in Bilbao not willing to accept a cent less to sanction the sale of their star attacker, the understanding, in turn, was that Barcelona would be required to fork over precisely this sum to bring in their leading summer target.
This, however, will in fact not prove to be the case.
As per the aforementioned MD, also needing to be taken into consideration is ‘the corresponding increase in the CPI (consumer price index)’.
As much, it is understood, amounts to around €4 million.
This means that, should Deco and the Camp Nou brass finally manage to wrap up an agreement on the personal terms of a contract with Nico, they will then need to splash out €62 million to make his signing a reality.
