An insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona for out-of-favour defender Clément Lenglet has this evening been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, who point towards the Barca brass as preparing something of a surprise.

Lenglet, for his part, is widely expected to be moved on before the close of the summer transfer window.

This comes for a number of reasons, chiefly the logjam at the heart of defence in Catalunya’s capital, and the Frenchman’s sky-high wages.

Owing to an agreement to defer his wages during the pandemic, Barcelona owe Lenglet a whopping €16-per-season through the summer of 2026.

With the stopper understandably eager not to forfeit such a considerable sum, the Camp Nou board have in turn long been working to find a solution.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, the Blaugrana, at last, appear to have found as much.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The solution is to renew the French centre-back (who has a contract until 2026) for 2 more seasons.’

Such an agreement would see Lenglet’s wages deferred once more, spread over the course of four years rather than two.

He would in turn be in line to earn €8 million-per-season through to 2028.

Once an accord regarding as much is reached, the plan of Deco and the Barca hierarchy would then be to farm Lenglet out on loan, to Atlético Madrid.

This comes with the Rojiblancos ready to cover 80% of his wages for the campaign ahead.
