Philippe Coutinho has enjoyed a pretty decent World Cup so far.
The Barcelona man found the back of the net with a wonderful long-range effort in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland in game one, and then broke Costa Rica’s stubborn resistance in the last minute of their 2-0 win in St Petersburg.
The Seleção go to Moscow on Wednesday, looking for the three points that would guarantee them qualification for the knockout rounds, but if Coutinho scores again, the omens look good for them to lift the trophy for a sixth time.
Should the 26-year-old score again at the Spartak Stadium against Serbia, then he’ll be only the fourth Brazilian to get goals in the opening three matches of a World Cup.
Rivaldo did it in 2002, Romario was the same in 1994 and the peerless Jairzinho was the first one to do it at Mexico 1970.
What links those three tournaments? Brazil went on to win the whole thing.
