Arsenal and Chelsea meet in Baku on Wednesday for the first of two all-English European finals this week.
The two sides are both pretty evenly matched going into the game and it got us thinking about what a combined XI would look like.
Here’s what we came up with …
We might have had a dilemma on our hands had Bernd Leno not watched most of Arsenal’s Europa League campaign from the bench but as it is, Chelsea’s semi-final penalty shoot-out hero edges this duel with Petr Čech.
Again, Héctor Bellerín’s injury woes meant Chelsea’s Mr Consistency was an easy choice for this role.
After suffering a potentially career ending injury in last season’s semi-final, Arsenal’s skipper has bounced back in fine style and is still one of the best centre-backs in the business.
The Brazilian has bounced back brilliantly from being frozen out under Antonio Conte and is currently one of the first names on Maurizio Sarri’s team-sheet.
Like his compatriot Azpilicueta, Monreal is a player who rarely lets his side down and is usually good for at least a 7/10 performance.
The World Cup winner is arguably the best holding midfielder in the world and Chelsea fans will be desperately hoping he’s fit for the final.
The Uruguayan has had an impressive debut season since joining from Sampdoria last summer and at 23, he still has plenty of time to improve.
On his day, the Belgian is one of the very finest players on the planet and the Europa League would be a nice parting gift to Chelsea if, as is expected, he leaves to join Real Madrid this summer.
Looked like his days in north London were numbered earlier this season but the German playmaker kept his head down and played an important role in the Gunners’ run to the Europa League final.
His goal tally for the season currently stands at 31 – eight of which have come in the Europa League. You wouldn’t bet against him bagging one or two more in the final.
And if Auba does find the net at the Olympic Stadium, it will more than likely be his good friend Laca who supplies the bullet. Their inseparable partnership has been responsible for Arsenal’s last eight goals in the Europa League and they probably aren’t finished yet.
