Michelle Agyemang is England’s newest rising star and the 19-year-old is set to make her Euros debut this summer despite only making one senior international appearance.
Michelle Agyemang joined Arsenal at just six years old and ever since then the forward has been living her dream, with the lifelong fan working her way up through the ranks and into the first team.
After making her senior debut in 202 Agyemang was loaned out for the first time in a move to Championship side Watford in 2023.
Following five goals in 10 games for the Hornets, the Arsenal loanee made her return to North London where she was handed her first professional contract.
Arsenal again made the decision to loan Agyemang out in the 2024 season and although the 19-year-old only scored three goals in 19 games, she finally broke into the senior England setup.
Following Alessia Russo’s withdrawal from the Nations League squad in April, Agyemang was handed a surprise call-up to the international team where the 19-year-old would go on to make an emphatic debut.
In Russo’s absence it was Agyemang who featured off the bench for England against Belgium in what was a dream start to her senior debut.
Just 41 seconds after coming onto the pitch Agyemang burst into life, with a brilliant piece of control in the box before she unleashed a vicious volley into the top corner.
Although her goal on debut wasn’t enough to push England for a comeback against Belgium, there was plenty of positives to take out of the Arsenal star’s brief cameo.
Sarina Wiegman was as happy as anyone following Agyemang’s goal against Germany, saying: “That goal was just incredible. The composure, the first touch and the second touch. For her, it was really nice that she comes on and within a minute she has the moment.”
The England manager was obviously impressed by Agyemang’s debut, as she confirmed that the teenager would be on the plane to Euro 2025 this summer in the Lionesses squad announcement.
Despite her lack of experience on the international stage at senior level, Agyemang has featured for almost every age group in the Lionesses youth setup and her senior tournament debut has been a long time coming
With injuries and retirement announcements galore plaguing the England team just weeks before the Euros begin, Agyemang could be exactly what the Lionesses need this summer to win what would be a historic second European Championship.
While the 19-year-old will be used sparingly as a rotation player this summer, Euro 2025 is sure to be the start of what should be a long career for Agyemang on the international stage.
