kicker reports that Manuel Neuer is close to agreeing a contract extension at Bayern Munich but Alexander Nübel’s future at the club remains in doubt.

Neuer’s new contract will be a one-year extension meaning his new deal will expire in 2026, this will also likely mean that the 38-year-old will be trusted as Bayern’s number one next season as well.

At the same time, Alexander Nübel’s loan at VfB Stuttgart expires in 2026. However, Nübel must show consistency in his performances and show that he is at the Bayern level while at the MHP Arena. On top of this, Bayern still see Neuer as a better goalkeeper than Nübel. When Nübel joined Bayern in 2020, he was touted as Neuer’s successor but despite strong performances in Monaco and now at Stuttgart, Bayern could look to overhaul the position.

One keeper on their radar is 1.FC Köln’s Jonas Urbig. The aim would be for Bayern to bring in a young keeper in the summer who can use the next season to learn from Neuer and develop alongside before potentially becoming Bayern’s number one in the 2026/27 season.

However, it has previously been reported that Urbig wants to be the number one at his next club, which ruled out him potentially replacing Lukas Hradecky at Bayer Leverkusen.
