West Bromwich Albion will aim to continue their rise up the Championship table in a bid to secure promotion back to the top-flight.

The Baggies have been consistently excellent upon the arrival of Carlos Corberan to B71 back in October 2022, with the Spaniard taking the Black Country outfit from the foot of the second tier table to the brink of the top six during his first term in charge.

Albion continue to fight towards the top end of the division this campaign despite limited financial resources and look increasingly likely to give themselves a shot at returning to the Premier League at the third time of asking.

Over the course of two transfer windows this season, the Baggies have failed to spend a penny on transfer fees, ultimately lowering the quality of the squad, which could normally be risen with significant investment.

However, West Brom continue to punch above their weight in the second tier, competing against sides who have far superior financial pulling power.

Here at Football League World, we reveal where West Brom rank in the Championship for team value, with all figures according to Transfermarkt.

West Brom’s team value ranking in the Championship

Out of the 24 sides competing in the second tier this term, West Brom are in 12th place for team value, with the squad totalling €53.6 million overall.

The Black Country outfit possesses a 28-man squad, with an average age in the first team coming in at 27.6 years old.

With 15 of the 28 players coming from overseas, Albion’s average value of each player in the squad is €1.91 million.

Given the lack of investment shown season upon season by previous controlling shareholder Guochuan Lai, it is hardly a surprise to see the Baggies’ team value dwindle as much as it has, with parachute payments disappearing after a three-year absence from the Premier League.

With all the problems developing in the background prior to Shilen Patel’s completed takeover, the outstanding job Corberan has managed to deliver so far is testament to the quality he possesses as a coach, and the Albion faithful are sure to be excited about what the Spaniard can deliver with additional funding.

West Brom’s most valuable players

As mentioned previously, the Baggies do not have a particularly high squad value but have some first team mainstays who are continuing to grow their stock with consistent gametime at The Hawthorns.

A host of West Brom players earn a valuation of €3.5 million, with Alex Mowatt becoming a regular back in the side after returning from his loan stint on Teesside with Middlesbrough.

Darnell Furlong has been another consistent performer at full-back, contributing to every single Championship contest and playing 3,218 minutes over the course of Albion’s campaign so far.

Josh Maja and Daryl Dike have been unable to increase their value, with the summer arrival suffering two serious ankle injuries this term while US international Dike remains out for the remainder of 2024 after rupturing his Achilles.

Despite being resorted to a place on the substitutes bench in recent times, John Swift is valued at €3.8 million, coming in as the clubs’ third-highest scorer this season with seven goals to his name.

Restricting Swift’s gametime has been Grady Diangana, with the Congolese international the highest valued member of the squad at €4 million.

Corberan has managed to slot the former West Ham academy graduate into the number 10 position in B71 over the last five games, which has resulted in the 25-year-old registering two goals and an assist from those meetings.

Diangana is experiencing his best season for attacking contributions since arriving on loan to The Hawthorns back in the 2019/20 campaign, and there will be an expectation of the attacker continuing his form, so Albion can comfortably cement a play-off place.

Sunderland arrives in fifth place, demonstrating a squad value of €82.6 million and boasting the youngest average aged squad in the second tier by quite a distance.

In fourth is Hull City, who have shocked the rest of the Championship with some of their recent acquisitions, with January signings Fabio Carvalho, Ryan Giles and Anass Zaroury turning the Tigers into genuine promotion contenders.

The top three highest valued squads are the sides who dropped down from the Premier League last term and dominate the rest of the division financially, with .
