In what’ll come as no surprise to any Manchester United – or football – fan, Neal Maupay is up to his usual tricks of being a wind-up merchant.

Although to be fair to him this time around, the Old Trafford faithful might actually share the sentiment.

One United supporter replied to one of his posts on Twitter (X), saying: “Neal, I signed you on loan for my Manchester United career mode and I’m wondering if you are happy to stay as a rotation option? I’m happy to make the deal permanent as long you accept the squad depth role. Lmk.”

Maupay then quoted the tweet, adding: “With the wages they pay?! Where do I sign mate”.

He’s certainly got a point, hasn’t he?

The Red Devils’ wage list makes for some truly dismal viewing, with the likes of experienced veterans Casemiro (32) and Raphael Varane (31) on £350,000 per week and £340,000 per week respectively.

Anthony Martial hasn’t featured for the club since December 9, 2023, yet he has pocketed a sweet £250,000 each week since then, the same wage as Mason Mount, who has also endured some absolutely torrid luck on the injury front in his maiden United campaign.

Last Saturday, Antony netted his first Premier League goal of the season, which took him 27 appearances to do so. £200,000.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a mammoth task on his hands to put an end to these ludicrous contracts going forward.
