Chelsea have confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino has left the club after just 12 months in charge.

Pochettino was appointed head coach at Stamford Bridge at the end of May 2023, taking over from caretaker Frank Lampard.

An eye-watering transfer spree of over £350m was spent during the summer transfer window in efforts to upgrade their squad.

But Pochettino’s solitary campaign was one of general disappointment with the club only qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

The Argentine’s side also slipped to an extra-time defeat in the EFL Cup final at the hands of Liverpool and exited the FA Cup semi-final to Manchester City.

He agreed to mutually part ways after an end-of-season review with the Blues’ co-owner Behad Eghbali and sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season,” read a statement from Stewart and Winstanley.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Pochettino’s backroom staff of Toni Jiménez, Jesús Pérez, Miguel d’Agostino and his son Sebastiano Pochettino have also left the club.
