Where do Chelsea stand with their transfer business?

There are a few weeks left of the transfer window and Chelsea have been busy this summer, yet find themselves still needing to complete business before the deadline.

Jorrel Hato, a £37 million Dutch defender from Ajax, has just been announced by the club and joins attacking recruits Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens as incomings to the squad.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Djordje Petrovic, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix are the high profile outgoings among 16 departures in total, including loans.

Outgoings

The Blues are still trying to offload a host of players including Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Christopher Nkunku and Renato Veiga.

A player who was not initially touted as for sale, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, is very close to completing a £25 million move to Everton, which could be wrapped up in the next few days.

Midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is expected to join Burnley for a fee in the region of £20 million. Chelsea paid £23 million for his services in 2023 so may not break even on the deal, a rare blunder perhaps in what has been a profitable window of sales so far.

English winger Carney Chukwuemeka is in talks with Borussia Dortmund, after a successful loan period with the Germans last season. His sale is nearing finalisation and will be for around £22 million.

Incomings

Despite already making a few attacking signings, head coach Enzo Maresca is seemingly not quite happy. The Blues are in talks to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leizig winger Xavi Simons.

Garnacho, once valued at £60 to £70million, could be available on a massively reduced half-price deal after falling out with United coach Ruben Amorim.

Simons, 22, meanwhile is rated as one of the hottest young prospects in world football. He may, therefore, command a fee of around £60 million to quit the Bundesliga.

Chelsea still have a lot of business to complete before the window closes on Monday 1st September. They will be prioritising the sales of Chilwell and Sterling, who have no way back at the club, and seem most keen to sign Simon of the two attacking options they are in for.

They will need to also shift focus to the Premier League which begins next weekend.
