Boro fans have been told when to expect Rob Edwards' official confirmation as the new Middlesbrough head coach.
Middlesbrough supporters have been patiently waiting for news of when Rob Edwards will become their new head coach, and now they've got it.
The 42-year-old has been a leading candidate to succeed Michael Carrick from the very beginning of the process.
Edwards has been out of work since his departure from Luton Town in early January, but is now ready to step back into EFL management with the Teessiders.
Middlesbrough fans had expected Edwards to have already been in place as Boro's new head coach by this weekend.
That's because a report earlier in the week from talkSPORT's chief football correspondent, Alex Crook, had claimed that he would be announced as the club's new manager on Thursday.
Crook has also claimed that Michael Beale and Harry Watling will be part of his backroom team at the Riverside Stadium.
However, it would appear that a couple of loose ends still needed to be tied on the deal, and so heading into this weekend, Boro fans are still waiting to see the club confirm Edwards' appointment.
But, their wait looks set to end, thanks to an update from Sky Sports' North East reporter, Keith Downie.
Revealing via his X account on Saturday morning, Downie has confirmed that Middlesbrough are now crossing the t's and dotting the i's on Edwards' announcement, with the former Luton boss expected to be appointed this weekend.
Once Edwards is in place at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough's summer recruitment drive looks set to be kicked into gear.
A report from The Northern Echo has revealed that Edwards' first week in charge on Teesside will largely be focused around recruitment, with discussions over potential transfer targets said to already be at an "advanced stage".
That same report also claims that in some cases, targets have already been formally approached by the club over a possible move to the North East this summer, but that there was an obvious hesitance to conclude any deals without a manager in place.
Edwards is familiar with both Boro's head of football Kieran Scott, and head of recruitment Chris Jones, having worked with each other during their respective spells at Wolves.
Therefore, all three of those key recruitment figures won't take long to be on the same page as one another, which can only benefit the club when it comes to everyone being aligned with the transfer strategy, and the types of players the former Forest Green Rovers and Watford boss will want to add to his new squad.
