When is the 2023 Championship Play-Off Final?

Fans who want to know the exact date of the Championship Play-Off Final should also know that the match is typically held around about the same time every season/year. This is due to it needing to be played before the next season and immediately after the normal Championship season ends.

For the 2022/23 Championship Play-Off final, football fans will be happy that the match will be played on Monday the 29th of May 2023. For those who have noticed this is a Monday, fear not, as this is a bank holiday weekend. The EFL schedule their Play-Offs finals games this weekend.

The way the Play-Offs work is that four teams from the Championship qualify. These are the teams in third-sixth place. The team in third plays two legs, home and away, against the team in sixth whilst fourth and fifth battle it out. The overall winners of the legs proceed to Wembley and the Championship Play-Off Final.

Last year, in the 2021/22 season, we saw remarkable things as Steve Cooper managed to get relegation battling Nottingham Forest, and then he went one further and won the Play-Off final after they beat Huddersfield.

This was a huge achievement and it will be an even bigger one if Forest can stay in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season.
