Boasting a squad that features such stars as Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, they have a ridiculous amount of depth in most positions.

They also come into the tournament in a reasonably easy group from their perspective; France are in Group D and will play Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia.

It feels as though the Danes are something of a threat, but one would expect France to win the group 99 times out of 100.

But how many times have they won the World Cup and when did they last lift the trophy?

France last lifted the trophy in 2018 so they are coming into the Qatar tournament as defending champions.

Les Bleus came through another group that featured Australia and Denmark – beating the former 2-1 and drawing with the latter 0-0 – while they also beat Peru 1-0.

In the knockout rounds, France managed to beat Argentina, Uruguay, and Belgium, before beating Croatia 4-2 in a classic final.

It was a remarkable run to the final and they were worthy winners come the end of their rain-soaked showpiece against Croatia in Russia.

France have won the tournament twice.

In addition to 2018, they won the tournament in 1998, when they had a side that featured Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Petit.

It was an amazing triumph; they won the tournament in their home country, having failed to qualify for the 1990 and 1994 tournaments.

In 98, they beat South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Denmark in the groups, then defeated Paraguay after extra time in the Round of 16, Italy on penalties in the quarter-final, Croatia in the semi-final and Brazil in the final.

France have also finished as runners-up in the tournament once, reaching the final in 2006 but losing on penalties to Italy.

Can they add a third title in Qatar?
