The French connection has run deep at Arsenal ever since Arsène Wenger's arrival nearly 30 years ago.
But the Gallic influence was particularly strong exactly 21 years ago as the north Londoners were closing in on their most recent Premier League title.
Within four minutes against Charlton Athletic, Robert Pires had racked up his 50th goal for the club and Patrick Vieira doubled the hosts' lead against the Addicks.
It proved to be a landmark affair for Wenger's side as they moved nine points clear at the top flight summit and edged closer to their unprecedented 'Invincibles' status.
