Strolling the Championship only a couple of short months ago, Leicester City seem to be doing their very own version of ‘Devon Loch’ in the 1956 Grand National.

They have inexplicably thrown a massive lead away at the top and are now in serious trouble of not getting automatic promotion.

As Newcastle United fans of a certain age can certainly testify, complacency and fatigue can come into play in the final strait of a season where at one time your team looked infallible.

The Championship has a few canny teams and any one of the sides currently in the top six will be hoping for and dreaming of Premier League football next season.

Ipswich Town have shown ambition under new ownership and are looking to secure back to back automatic promotions.

Leeds United could also be set for an immediate return to the EPL. Whatever some may think of them, I believe Leeds should always be in the top flight.

During this season, I have heard some Toon fans going on about how they miss having regular derbies against Sunderland.

They are going to have to get used to it because this current Sunderland team are a bunch of donkeys.

I hope the joke comparison fits when I say the mackems are as likely to become a Premier League club anytime soon, as ‘Giddy Up A Ding Dong’ by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band has of being rereleased and getting to Number 1.

We take on Tottenham Hotspur on this Grand National day and if you fancy a flutter, get your money on the Toon winning and the thoroughbred Alexander Isak scoring at anytime.

We are trotting along nicely and if we can avoid stumbling into any obvious hurdles, a sixth place finish is well within our capabilities.

I thank my lucky stars every day that our club got taken over from Mike Ashley and that relegations and seasons in the Championship are now a thing of the past.

There will surely be no more of that hell to ever come back to haunt us again.

We have arrived, making great strides and the days of Newcastle United fans riding what once seemed like ‘A Horse with no Name’ are over.
