Over the course of the summer transfer window, VfB Stuttgart have been attempting to sign Deniz Undav from Brighton on a permanent transfer.
After a successful loan period last season that saw the German register 19 goals and ten assists, Die Roten are hoping that Undav will remain at the MHPArena. However, Brighton are keen on maximising their profit for Undav and have thus far rejected Stuttgart’s offers for the 28-year-old.
This has left the Swabians frustrated and in need of a possible Plan B. Therefore, who could be in line to replace Undav for Stuttgart’s return to the Champions League?
As reported via FT, FC Genoa’s Albert Guðmundsson is being closely monitored by the Bundesliga runners-up. Last season, the 27-year-old scored 16 goals and collected five assists for Genoa in their return to Serie A.
This has piqued the interest of Stuttgart, who consider Guðmundsson’s tally from last season to be comparable with that of Undav’s. As well as this, Stade Rennes’ Arnaud Kalimuendo is also on Stuttgart’s shortlist but is not seen as desirable as Guðmundsson.
Nevertheless, Die Roten are still hopeful of landing Undav’s signature, and they will ensure that they do whatever they can to make his permanent signing a reality. However, should their next approach for Undav be blocked by Brighton, then a move for Guðmundsson may follow.
