The defeat marked the end of Blues' unbeaten start to the Championship
Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has sparked a fierce debate among Blues fans after his post-match interview following the club's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.
The defeat marked the end of the West Midlands outfit's unbeaten start to the Championship, having picked up seven points from their opening three matches since returning to the second tier.
Upon losing, Birmingham dropped from fifth to seventh in the table - prior to Saturday's games being played.
Leicester City, meanwhile, secured their third win in four matches, with goals from Abdul Fatawu and Ricardo Pereira sealing the three points.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Friday night fixture at the King Power Stadium, Davies' words left Birmingham City fans questioning whether their manager was being realistic about his side's performance.
"We’re obviously disappointed to lose the game, I thought we had the line share of the game, I thought we were strong throughout, dominant throughout. They couldn’t get any rhythm," Davies told Sky Sports.
Davies continued his debrief by putting emphasis on how his team had "disrupted" Leicester's usual style of play. "Obviously, I've seen a lot of Leicester play, I think we really disrupted them, we played well with the ball - obviously up until that very final bit where we couldn’t create clear chances."
The 40-year-old, who previously worked at Leicester as assistant manager under Brendan Rodgers, was critical of his team's defending - but maintained that the overall performance was encouraging.
"Obviously, I've seen a lot of Leicester play, I think we really disrupted them, we played well with the ball - obviously up until that very final bit where we couldn’t create clear chances," Davies explained.
The manager concluded by revealing he told the squad after the game had finished that there were a lot of postives to take, "Obviously, I've seen a lot of Leicester play, I think we really disrupted them, we played well with the ball - obviously up until that very final bit where we couldn’t create clear chances."
It's fair to say the reaction from Birmingham City supporters has been mixed.
For someone who guided Birmingham to the highest points total in English football history last season, there's no doubt Davies will want to bounce back from this defeat when they return to action after the international break. To reiterate @dant1875's tweet, his interview could very well have been just a front for the media, even if it caused backlash from fans.
