Unnamed Italian and Portuguese sides were reported last week to have submitted opening bids for the Spaniard. Interest in him is also coming from first division clubs in England, Spain and Turkey.

The Championship's joint-second top scorer from last season was always going to appear on the radars of clubs across the continent, even though the majority of his brilliance came in the first half of the campaign. Atletico Madrid and Girona had offers knocked back by the Canaries in January following this impressive spell.

Norwich's other high-flying forward, Josh Sargent, has been the subject of continental interest. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the American is a striker option that AS Roma are looking at this summer.

Knapper, City's sporting director, has confirmed that new bids have been made to them since the end of the season, but confirmed that the proposals were not close to what they would consider selling the 24-year-old for.

"We’ve had multiple formal offers," he said at Liam Manning's first press conference since being appointed as his hometown club's new head coach.

"There’s other clubs circling. But none of those have met our valuation. We’ve shown long before my time at the club as well, we can get good value for players."

The sporting director continued: "Selling players is important and we’ve managed to do that well historically. Things have to be right for us and that will remain the same."

Manning also took the opportunity to comment on the Sainz and Sargent situations. "You have to work for today and tomorrow. They are top players for the level and naturally they will have interest, but it has to be right for the club."

Mark Attanasio, the owner of Norwich, stated at the club's last AGM, in October, that the Canaries are not in a position where they need to sell the likes of the Spaniard. This came off the back of last summer when Manning's predecessor, Johannes Hoff Thorup, went into his first and only season at Carrow Road without two of the star players that he had when he first joined: Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara.

Rowe went to Marseille on loan with a mandatory-buy clause included in the deal, while Sara joined Galatasaray for €18 million (around £15 million), excluding add-ons. Norwich could receive up to £17 million for the former as part of the deal with the French side.

Manning may be wary of the same thing happening to him. Sainz and Sargent's goal records and age make them attractive commodities for any club who is missing a goalscorer. Interest in the 24-year-old, in particular, could be hard to fend off because of his contract situation. He only has one year left on his current deal.
