Borja Sainz's Norwich future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks
Norwich City have yet to receive an offer for Borja Sainz that matches their valuation of the player amid bids from Porto and Napoli.
According to Pink Un, talks are ongoing to strike a deal but it’s unlikely any agreement will be reached before the first transfer deadline of this summer, which comes this evening at 7pm.
Sainz earned a lot of praise for his performances in the Championship last season, and it will come as no surprise that this has led to transfer interest.
The winger scored 18 goals from 41 appearances in the second division, as well as registering four assists.
It has been reported that bids have been submitted from both Porto and Napoli, but no deal has yet been agreed.
It’s understood that no offers have yet arrived from Spain, despite previously reported interest from the likes of Athletic Club.
It’s believed that clubs in England and Greece are also interested, but the only concrete offers have arrived from the Serie A champions and Porto.
Sainz is entering the final 12 months of his contract, but the Canaries are still hoping to hold out for a greater fee if they are to cash in.
The forward enjoyed an exceptional Championship campaign, but the team’s underwhelming form led to them finishing 13th in the table, leading to increased speculation over the player’s future.
But Norwich have yet to receive an offer that has met their valuation, despite such strong interest.
Sporting director Ben Knapper confirmed earlier this week that offers had been submitted for Sainz.
However, he’s made it clear that they will only agree to a sale on their terms as he looks to maintain the club’s reputation for being a tough negotiator.
"Listen, we've had multiple formal offers [for Sainz]," said Knapper, via Pink Un.
"There's no surprise for a player at that level who performed how he did last season.
"There's big interest from particularly a couple of different clubs, but there's others circling as well.
"We've had formal proposals, but nothing's quite met our valuation.
"Those discussions are ongoing.
"Let's see how they conclude.
"Of course he's a player with big interest in the market, but it's still early, and as I said, it's got to be right for us.
"We've shown an ability, I think, at this club long before my time, to sell players really well.
"It's part of our strategy, and that'll be no different with Borja."
Norwich officially confirmed the appointment of Liam Manning as their new head coach earlier this month following the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Sainz’s departure from Carrow Road this summer seems inevitable at this stage given the level of speculation surrounding him.
But Norwich are still holding out for as much as they can get, which is the right thing to do when there are so many clubs circling.
A move to Napoli or Porto would be an exciting step up for the winger, and there is no point to the Canaries standing in his way of such a step up.
